When preparing for your stay at Valley Spring Recovery Center, it is essential to pack appropriately to ensure your comfort and compliance with our facility guidelines. Below is a comprehensive list of items you should bring, along with items that are restricted.
Clothing
- Casual Pants: Full-length casual pants such as jeans, khakis, cargo pants, and sweatpants.
- Shirts: T-shirts, polos, button-down shirts, sweaters, hoodies, and cardigans. Tank tops, spaghetti straps, and strapless shirts must be worn under other shirts.
- Exercise Clothing: Knee-length shorts, warm-up suits, sweatshirts, and sweatpants.
- Seasonal Outerwear: Jackets or other weather-appropriate outerwear.
- Swim Attire:
- Male: Swim trunks of mid-thigh length or longer, with a liner.
- Female: One-piece bathing suit that is fully intact and covering.
- Flip flops and/or sandals (permitted only during designated times).
- Pajamas and Robe: For comfort during your stay.
- Socks and Undergarments: Sufficient for your stay.
- Footwear: Comfortable, practical, rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Sneakers are ideal for recreation and exercise activities. High heels are not recommended.
Note: Limit luggage to one carry-on suitcase and an overnight bag. Bring five to seven days’ worth of casual clothing. Laundering services are provided free of charge, and dry-cleaning services are available upon request for an additional charge. All clothing must fit appropriately. Pants with rips, tears, or holes, as well as “skintight” clothing or excessively “saggy pants,” are not permitted.
Personal Items
- Toiletries: Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste. All products must be sealed and unscented. Products containing alcohol (e.g., perfume, mouthwash, nail polish remover, hair spray) are not permitted. Aerosol products are also prohibited.
- Personal Hygiene Products: Ensure they are unscented and sealed.
- Sunscreen Lotion: No self-tanners.
- Shaving Kit or Razor: Plastic handle/casing if desired.
- Journal: For personal reflections.
- Small Backpack or Tote: For daily use.
- Wristwatch and Alarm Clock: Without a radio.
- Sunglasses: For outdoor use only.
- CPAP or Sleep Apnea Machine: If needed.
- Contact Information: For physicians, family members, and others involved in your care.
- Picture ID, Insurance Card, and Prescription Card.
- Copy of Advance Directive/Living Will.
- Phone Numbers: For family emergencies.
- Calling Cards: For international calls, if needed.
Valuables Policy
You are encouraged to leave personal valuables at home. Small personal items such as a cell phone and wallet will be secured in the business office and returned upon discharge. You may be asked to ship personal items home.
Restricted Items
- Alcohol, Drugs, Contraband: Of any kind.
- Personal Products Containing Alcohol: Including perfume, mouthwash, etc.
- Aerosol Products.
- Unsealed Products: Including personal hygiene and tobacco products.
- Non-approved Tobacco Products.
- Electronics.
- Craft and Hobby Supplies/Items.
- Personal Bedding, Pillows, and Linens.
- Outside Food or Drinks.
- Sex Toys and/or Pornography.
- Weapons: Guns, knives, scissors, or any item that can be used as a weapon.
- Provocative Dress Attire: Clothing that draws undue, negative attention.
- Clothing with Non-Recovery-Oriented Sayings: Titles or symbols (e.g., beer/alcohol brands, marijuana plants, etc.).
- Smart Watches or Fitness Trackers.
Exceptions to this list will be clinically driven and must be pre-approved prior to admission.
