About Sara

Sara's Background and Approach

Sara O'Neill is an Evening Counselor in the Clinical program at Valley Spring Recovery Center, with 7 years of experience in behavioral health and addiction treatment services. She holds a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential and a Bachelor's degree in Communication from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and is currently completing her Master of Social Work at Rutgers University, with an expected graduation of August 2026. Sara has a specialized interest in perinatal and postpartum mental health and nervous system regulation. Sara works with adults navigating substance use and recovery, general mental health concerns, and families and support systems. She believes healing begins with compassion, connection, and meeting individuals where they are, and her client-centered, strengths-based approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) alongside mindfulness and nervous system regulation techniques tailored to each client's emotional, cultural, and clinical needs. Sara's own recovery journey, which began in 2017, has profoundly shaped her passion for this work, deepening her empathy and strengthening her commitment to advocacy. Outside the office, she recharges through fitness, cooking and baking, and spending time with her growing family.
