James Sands

James Sands is the Director of Business Development at Valley Spring Recovery Center, where he leverages his Bachelor of Science degree and Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) qualifications to make a significant impact in the field of addiction recovery. With a strong background in counseling and case management, James specializes in guiding patients through their recovery journey with empathy and expertise.

Having over 23 years of personal recovery, James, known as Jimmy, brings a unique perspective to his work. He frequently speaks at 12-step meetings, brings these programs into hospitals and institutions, and often speaks at community events. His deep involvement with union members, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), large employer groups, and hospitals has established him as a trusted figure in bridging the gap between patients in need and the support systems that can help them.

Jimmy’s CASAC qualification enhances his ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families, offering informed guidance and support during their most challenging times. In addition to his leadership role, Jimmy occasionally contributes to clinical programming by running groups for patients, drawing on his extensive recovery and clinical experience. Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys playing pickleball and paddleball, where he’s considered an “A” player. He also plays the drums and cherishes quality time with his children.
